2015-2016: The Beginning

Colonix's story started back in 2015 with a dream to master the art of robotics. A small group of children, naturally talented in disassembling household appliances and driven by boundless curiosity, joined forces with their parents to delve deeper into this burgeoning interest. What started as casual gatherings of seven kids led by a father-turned-teacher soon evolved into fun, engaging sessions where engineering concepts were demystified for young minds.

2016-2018: The Growth

Even without a formal name, our weekly meetups flourished. The discovery of robotic tournaments in Medellín fueled our passion, leading us to participate in our first competition, RoboRAVE, under the team name 'Peti-Robot'.

During the 16th edition of Capital Semilla in 2019, from a pool of 2,518 business ideas, Colonix stood out. After rigorous training, pitching to the economic development secretariat and expert judges, and an impact evaluation phase, we were selected as one of the top 100 startups in Medellín. Particularly excelling in the education sector, we earned seed funding and six months of business mentorship. This period was a deep dive into legal frameworks, communication and marketing strategies, finance management, and business tactics.

With only a few months of operations and our first 40 students onboard, the unexpected pandemic hit. What initially seemed like a potential downfall turned into a remarkable opportunity to impact more children educationally than we ever could have in-person. Our online Minecraft Education course reached learners across Colombia, Panama, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and even the United States. These achievements led us to significant partnerships, eventually earning us the role of Directors of the remote seedbed at Universidad EIA.

2022-2023

By 2021, our main center in Medellín was almost at full capacity. We imported additional EV3 and NXT LEGO Mindstorm robots to accommodate our growing student base. Our reputation began to spread, and soon we were receiving numerous inquiries from Bogotá. This led to the successful launch of a pilot program in the city, followed by a replication of our model in Cali. Today, we proudly stand as Colombia's leading robotics academy, making quality and enjoyable education accessible to a vast number of children.
